The carry over the heather is less fearsome than it appears from the tee, the favoured line being left-centre, to avoid possibly being blocked out by the copse of trees on the right. For the second shot, the player must decide whether to risk going for the green or to lay up short of the two fairway bunkers about 70 yards short of it. The green falls away to bunkers on either side, and is always a little further away than it seems.
