YGC Junior section

Junior Categories

At YGC, we have 3 categories within the junior section, as detailed below. Speak with our Pro-Team/Junior Organiser to understand which category is best suited to your current experience. Progression through the categories is usually through consultation with the coaching team.

Pre-Blues 

Juniors new to the game who are learning the basic skills and are yet to achieve a Blues handicap.

Pre-Blue juniors are encouraged to attend group coaching sessions held by our PGA Pro Team. In these sessions, you will learn golf fundamentals and have lots of fun!  

New for 2025 the junior committee will be holding on course game opportunities for Pre-Blues. This will involve a reduced course of 5 holes ranging from 50 -150 yards allowing the juniors to experience golf in a fun environment with no pressure of scoring and allowing the juniors to put in practice what they have learnt in their coaching sessions.

Blues

Juniors who are improving but are yet to achieve a WHS handicap and who have a local Club handicap from the Blue Tees on the main course.

The junior Blues are encouraged to attend group coaching sessions held by our PGA Pro Team.

The junior Blues section hold 11 x 9-hole Stableford competitions off a reduced course allowing the juniors to experience golf on the course while honing their skills to develop towards attaining a full World Handicap System (WHS) handicap.

WHS

Juniors which hold an official World Handicap System (WHS) handicap. These juniors are more experienced and competent Juniors who form the squad for competitive Junior matches.

The WHS juniors are encouraged to attend group coaching sessions held by our PGA Pro Team to enable the juniors to develop their skills in readiness for competitions and junior team events.

The WHS juniors have a full fixture list of competitions running throughout the year covering a wide range of competition formats to give the juniors a full experience of all types of golf within the game.
