Spring Family Foursomes Rules
FAMILY FOURSOMES (Spring/Riddell Bowl)
Introduction
The aim is to introduce YGC juniors to the foursomes’ format over 18 holes and to allow them to compete with an adult member of their family.
Competition eligibility
- The competition is open to both WHS and Blues handicap juniors and a family member. The intent is that the adult family partner will be a member of YGC but, where this is not possible, family members from another club are welcome to compete. If no family members are golfers, then the junior is welcome to invite an adult partner ideally from YGC but, if not practicable, then from another club.
- You are eligible to enter this competition if you are a junior member of the Club and hold a Handicap Index under the World Handicap System or a Junior Blue with a Junior Blue Handicap. All Adult players shall hold a Handicap Index under the World Handicap System at their retrospective club.
- In addition to holding a Handicap Index/Blues Handicap, you must have submitted a minimum of four Acceptable Scores since 1st January of the previous year. An Acceptable Score is a score for a round played in accordance with the Rules of Golf, in an authorised format of play, with at least one other person who also has a Handicap Index, on a course with a current Course Rating and Slope Rating. Authorised formats of play include all qualifying competitions, and pre-registered "social scores" in General Play, whether they are played at YGC or elsewhere.
Competition format
- Foursomes stableford over 18 holes. Play should normally start from the 1st tee. Either player may tee off from the yellow/red tees (Use of red tees are for junior girls of any handicap and boys with a handicap above 28). Selection of tees per player shall be made prior to the first round and the player plays from the designated tee on their turn to tee off. Junior Blues must play from the blues tees provided. Please note that play may start from a tee other than the 1st, but only in exceptional circumstances and only if both teams agree.
- There is no stipulation on whether the adult drives the odds or evens but clearly the driver alternates on each hole. Yellow or red tees for the WHS handicappers and blue tees for junior blues.
- Course Handicaps (based on the Ladies Red Tees for scoring) for WHS Men Yellow or Red tees - WHS Ladies Red tees
- WHS Juniors will need to indicate beforehand which tees they intend to play off, Red or Yellow, and their course handicap determined accordingly adjusted for the use of different tees. Blues – Blue handicap reduced by 12 to account for the difference between yellow and blue course ratings. The handicaps of the two players calculated as above are combined and then divided by two. Shots taken against the Ladies stroke index. Eg Blue handicap 36 with WHS lady junior course handicap 10 (36 -12 = 24) plus (10) - 34 divided by 2 = 17
- Stroke indices from Ladies red card .
General competition rules
- Before playing in the competition, all competitors must sign in on the computer, obtain a scorecard, and pay the appropriate entry fee (this will be automatically deducted from their account). The cost of entry is £5 per team with non-members paying an additional £10 green fee.
2. Any competitor who books a starting time for a competition and then does not turn up at the due time without notifying their playing partners and the Professional’s shop in advance, may be suspended from subsequent competitions under the Club’s “No-shows” policy.
3. Play may not commence before 7.00am in any competition, unless otherwise notified. This is to enable the greens staff to prepare the course so that all competitors play the same course.
4. On completion of their round, all competitors must deposit their scorecard in the official scorecards box; at this point they are deemed to have returned the card and no changes can be made to it. Competitors should also enter their scores on the computer scoring system.
5. The results of the competition will be processed by the Matches & Competitions Committee and published on the Club website/IG System; at this point the competition is closed, and the results are final.
Procedure in the event of ties
All ties for the overall competition will be resolved on the last 9 - 6 - 3 - 1 holes of the card
